The Traditional Discworld Maskerade will take place on Saturday evening. All convention members are welcome to sit in the audience and watch (no costume required) or get creative, make a costume and join in the fun! In order to take part in the Maskerade there are a few criteria you will have to bear in mind. Please read the criteria below, then fill out the form you see here:
Registration at the NADWCon will also be available, but filling out this form ahead of time is very helpful to us.
The Rehearsal:
Maskerade participants you will have to take part in the Maskerade rehearsal, Friday, or early Saturday. There are a lot of details that need to be worked out before we can put on our Maskerade, and we need the rehearsal to help make sure everything goes smoothly.
Costume Criteria:
The criteria for your costume is pretty broad. You are free to dress up as any Discworld character you like, be they as they were described in the books, as they appeared in one of the films or cartoons, or even if it is only as you imagine them to be. Your character can also be an original creation of yours that fits into the Discworld, but please remember that Discworld is the focus of this maskerade. We know that it is probably possible for The Tardis to land on the Discworld, but that doesn't mean that Dr. Who characters will be accepted.
Your costume should be constructed by you with as few manufactured items incorporated into it as possible. Such items should not make up the bulk, or most prominent parts of your costume. The parts of your costume that really catch our eyes should be made by you. We are not saying that you can't use a toy sword for your Sam Vimes costume, but we do not want to see you wearing a store bought rubber halloween mask for your Igor costume. You can take a store bought rubber mask, repaint it, cut it up, and rework it into something original though. Just so long as what we are seeing in your costume is something that comes from you, not from a factory.
If the costume you are wearing was not made by you, and you are just modeling it, then we want to know the name of the person the did make it, so we can give them proper credit. That person should be there to accept any awards their costume earned, but it is alright if the model is acting as a middleman for someone who can't make it to the convention.
When constructing your costumes please bear in mind that you will be expected to be able to go up and down a few stairs to get on and off the stage. You will also need to walk through a doorway or two. Assistants will be provided to help you get around if your costume is cumbersome, but there are reasonable limits you will need to stay within. If you plan on dressing up as the tower of art, you may want to reduce it in scale a little bit.
How the event will work:
Each maskerade participant will be introduced by the event's Master of Ceremonies, and will be expected to perform a short skit (about a minute long is a good standard) involving the character they are portraying. This skit can be humorous or serious, it can be spoken or silent, by yourself or with another maskerade participant, it is all up to you. There is a lot of room for imagination here, so we encourage you to have fun with it! When you arrive at the maskerade rehearsal, please have a written draft of your skit ready for our organizers to work with.

There will be three categories, that will have awards for the best received, Novice, Journeyman, and Master. Each judge will also give an award for their individual favorite. Honorable Mentions will also be given.
